Why Do We Support Organic Farming?
Organic farmers do not routinely use chemical sprays whose residues can find their way into the food chain. Organic standards also ban the use of GM (genetically modified) technology and food additives (which are linked to health problems).
Organic farming is sustainable and works in harmony with nature, thereby creating a more diverse wildlife. The principle of sustainability is that whatever we take out of the soil we put back in… naturally. Accomplishing this means using centuries-old techniques such as crop rotation and natural rather than artificial fertilizers.
Organic farming requires all animals to be kept in more natural, free range conditions where they are fed wholesome, natural foods. The routine use of drugs, antibiotics and wormers, common in intensive farming, are not permitted. Choosing organic meat is a means to help avoid ingesting all of the drugs or non-organic feed by-products (that may lead to BSE, commonly known as mad cow disease) that are often forced on an animal during its lifetime.
